PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that there is a danger that an impact at the time of folding sometimes causes unexpected faults (a weak person such as a little child, an old person or a sick person is injured or made to fear) since the folding of a reclining seat (seat, hereafter) chiefly depends on the repulsive force of a leaf spring in a conventional seat reclining device and to comfortably fold and/or erect the seat or the like. SOLUTION: The seat reclining device is composed of a lock mechanism B of a reclining mechanism, a casing 1 fixed to the lock mechanism, a spring 3 whose both ends are locked to the casing, a groove 5 for moving the locking end of a spring provided on the casing, an operation means for operating the spring provided on the casing, and a control means 7 for controlling the spring. Thus, by the improvement of the casing and the spring, the spring is controlled, the folding or the like of the seat is gently performed through appropriate adjustment and various kinds of the impacts are eliminated.
