PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems that a substance whose rotatory polarization direction is not clarified cannot be measured when a rotatory polarization substance is measured using liquid crystals, and that, when substances having different rotatory polarization properties are mixedly present, the densities thereof can be measured using the specific angle of rotation with respect to the substances using light sources having different wavelengths, but, depending on the densities of the substances, the angles of rotation in both the right and left directions should be measured, and thus cannot be measured. SOLUTION: To densiy measuring device comprises liquid crystal elements 8 and 9 for rightward and leftward rotatory polarization, respectively, as an angle-of-rotation modulating means 93. Further, these liquid crystal elements are configured to be selectively used based on the wavelength of the light source, thereby capable of measuring the density of a specimen in which substances having different rotatory polarization properties are mixdly present.
