<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high-luminance white light source, especially using three primary color light emitting diodes of red, green and blue, with regard to backlight of a liquid crystal panel and a light source device. <P>SOLUTION: In the backlight for the liquid crystal or the light source device for lighting, the light emitting diodes of reflecting type structure, which is provided with a reflective surface opposed to light emitting elements as light sources, once receives almost all the light radiated from the light emitting elements, and radiates it outside as a light-controlled and well-proportioned light, is adopted. An optical means for further improving proportionality such as a transmittance distribution sheet, a Fresnel lens, a louver sheet, or a diffuser plate so that the means corresponds to a transmittance distribution in a radiative surface of a dichroic prism after each color passes through the dichroic prism, is provided between the radiative surface of the the reflection type light emitting diode and the dichroic prism.
