PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controlling mechanism which relates to the operation of a catheter through a vessel structure of a patient, more specifically, the mechanism to control catheter utilizing deflection of the distal end of the catheter by means of differential bending of another structure.
SOLUTION: A device to control a low-temperature heart excision catheter through the vessel structure of the patient includes a first and a second deflecting materials which connect a tip member to the distal end of a catheter tube. An important characteristic is that the first and the second deflecting materials have different bending elastic moduli, and the bending elastic modulus of the second material is greater than that of the first material. The device also includes a control wire to pull the tip member toward the catheter tube side. As a result, the first and the second deflecting materials are deflected differentially, causing the tip member to move, and thus catheter is controlled through the vessel structure.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
