PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve spatial frequency characteristics as desired by arranging signal detection elements in a desirable state. SOLUTION: A prepositioned array 17 and a postpositioned array 18 are arranged in the front and at the rear of a fundamental array 12 having signal detection elements 51 arrayed linearly, and outputs of signal detection elements 51 properly extracted from respective arrays are side-coupled. In the case of a two-dimensional array of signal detection elements 51, outputs of signal detection elements properly extracted from the periphery are side-coupled. Thus, for example, PSF or MTF of a signal output obtained by side-coupling can be easily changed to a desired form. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
