PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linear motor which is efficiently cooled and thus makes it possible to minimize thermal displacement in machine tools and to carry out high-accuracy machining. SOLUTION: The linear motor 101 comprises a stator 102 and a mover 103 disposed opposite to each other, and is so constituted that force produced between magnets 120 and armatures 130 is utilized to move the mover 103 along the stator 102. A first cooling air path 139 is formed so that it runs along the magnets 120 or armatures 130 placed on the stator side. Air is fed into the first cooling air path 139 and S by first air supplying means 141 and 142. Thus, the mover 103, the magnets 120 or armatures 130 placed on the stator side, and the like can be cooled. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
