摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zoom lens where aberrations are excellently compensated and which exhibits performance of lightness, compactness, a wide field angle, and a large zoom ratio as the best balance and is suitable for projection using liquid crystal by making a six-group type lens where 2nd to 4th groups are moved at the time of power variation satisfies a specified conditional expression, and also to provide a projection type display device using the same. SOLUTION: A 1st negative lens group G<SB>1</SB>is fixed in the case of power variation and has a focusing function, 2nd positive, 3rd positive or negative, 4th positive, and 5th negative lens groups G<SB>2</SB>, G<SB>3</SB>G<SB>4</SB>, and G<SB>5</SB>have a function for performing consecutive power variation and correcting the movement of an image plane caused by the consecutive power variation by moving while keeping mutual relation. The 3rd lens group G<SB>3</SB>has at least one lens with negative refracting power, the 2nd lens group G<SB>2</SB>and 4th lens group G<SB>4</SB>move toward the enlargement side as zooming to the telephoto side is performed, and the 5th lens group G<SB>5</SB>has its telephoto-end zooming position closer to the enlargement side than the wide-angle end zooming position.
