摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide insulating spheric black particles having an excellent light shielding property and to provide a liquid crystal spacer consisting of the particles. SOLUTION: The insulating spheric black particles comprise spheric metal oxide particles having 1 to 10μm average particle size, preferably spheric silica particles, the surfaces of which are coated with metal tungsten coating films in a state of scattered dots. The metal tungsten films like scattered dots are preferably deposited by sputtering, and the crystalline diameter of the films is preferably controlled to 1 to 20 nm calculated from the half-width in the X-ray diffraction according to Sheller formula. The liquid crystal spacer consists of the insulating spheric black particles with≤1.5% variation coefficient (standard deviation/average) of the particle size of the structural particles, and the spacer contributes to the construction of a high-quality liquid crystal screen with high contrast.
