PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent large turbulence in an engine air-fuel ratio caused by inappropriate purge control operation resulting from incorrect study of vapor concentration in fuel tank purge of an internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: An evaporation fuel processing unit of an internal combustion engine includes a means to presume the vapor concentration of fuel in purge flow on the basis of a degree of purge of fuel vapor and variation, in the engine operation air-fuel ratio caused by the purge when fuel vapor evaporated in the fuel tank is mixed into intake air of the internal combustion engine. Further, there is provided a means to control a degree of purge in such an operating state of the engine that an error in presuming the vapor concentration is apt to occur. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
