PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide moistureproof paper having excellent moistureproofness without causing deterioration of color developing properties (desensitization) when pressure-sensitive recording paper or heat-sensitive recording paper is packaged. SOLUTION: The moistureproof paper is provided with a moistureproof layer consisting essentially of a synthetic resin emulsion and a wax emulsion on at least one surface of a paper substrate. In the moistureproof paper, a nonvolatile alkali without containing ammonia, an ammonium group or an amine group, preferably sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide is used as a neutralizing agent for a water-borne coating agent used for forming the moistureproof layer. Since the ammonia adversely affecting a dye or a developer is absent in the moistureproof layer, the deterioration of color developing properties of pressure-sensitive recording paper or heat-sensitive recording paper is not caused.
