Disclosed is a device for monitoring a sensor, characterized in that a self-test is possible up to the limits of the measuring range for a closed-loop control. This is made possible by using a sensor whose measuring range is greater than that for the closed-loop control. The resolution is increased and, optionally, a bipolar test is carried out. In one example, selection is greater for a closed-loop control of a maximum 35g than for the required 35g excursion in said closed-loop control.
