The safety system for operation of such as a railway transport system has a protocol memory that receives entries from at least two different sources. This defines the operating condition. The system uses data such as current position, time taken over a section, signalling of passing of reference locations, arrival and departure data. The information is transmitted by radio link as periodic data packets.
