PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a waste gas treating system compact by removing SOx contained in combustion waste gas with a simple constitution and to improve the operability of waste gas burning equipment by effectively preventing the waste gas burning equipment from being corroded and clogged.

SOLUTION: The combustion waste gas containing SOx produced by burning the waste gas containing SOx is brought into contact with an aqueous solution of a solid alkali compound hardly soluble in water in a wet packed column 33 packed with a packing material 33b containing the solid alkali compound.
