PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display in which a lens unit of a magnifying optical system for decreasing aberration such as distortion, curvature aberration, astigmatism, and chromatic aberration all over the projected image with a small number of lenses, and for increasing resolution, is used, thereby, to provide the inexpensive, simple and high-performance display. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display comprises a light source unit 1 which generates incident light, a liquid crystal panel 6a which spatially modulates the incident light to generate exiting light representing an image, and a lens unit 8 which magnifies and projects the exiting light to display an image. The lens unit 8 is allowed to have aberration which causes distortion of an image. The liquid crystal panel 6a is preliminarily deformed to compensate the aberration and displays an image with suppressed distortion. For example, the lens unit 8 includes curvature aberration, while the liquid crystal panel 6a is deformed by curving to compensate the curvature aberration, or the lens unit 8 includes distortion aberration, while the liquid crystal panel 6a is deformed by distorting to compensate the distortion aberration.
