<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent high voltage electrostatic current from being fed to a main body ECU circuit even when a connector contact is touched in error by the electrified hand. <P>SOLUTION: A process cartridge 1 having a memory means 2 etc., with an electrical contact is attachable to and detachable from an electrophotographic image forming apparatus which forms an image on a recording medium. The electrophotographic image forming apparatus is provided with: an opening and closing cover opening and closing the process cartridge; a connector member provided with the contact part coming into electrical contact with the memory means; and a connector action mechanism moving the connector, interlocked with the opening and closing cover, between a communication possible position in which the connector can be brought into contact with the memory means and a retracting position in which contact cannot be made. When the connector means is in the position in which contact cannot be made with the memory means, the contact 4 of the connector is shut off from a memory communication circuit.
