PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pump device that requires no troublesome maintenance due to clogging by preventing the clogging of a pump by solid foreign material such as rubbish. SOLUTION: The solid foreign material such as the rubbish mixed in waste water and sewage W guided from a water guide passage 2 to a column 4 is once collected by a filter means 10, and is stored in a water storage tank 3 as fresh water W1. The stored fresh water W1 is pumped up by operation of a vertical shaft submerged pump P to backward wash the solid foreign material such as the rubbish collected by the filter means 10 and the fresh water W1 is discharged from a water discharge passage 9 in a state returning to the waste water and sewage W. Thereby, the waste water and sewage W is prevented from passing an inside of the vertical shaft submerged pump P, and the clogging of the vertical shaft submerged pump P by the solid foreign material can be securely prevented.
