PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for preventing an oil leakage to the inside of a generator. SOLUTION: The generator bearing housing (18) is isolated from the inside of a generator enclosure (10) by forming a cavity (37) inside the end wall of the generator in a state of having a seal (41) between the end wall of the generator and a rotor. By this, while the inside of the generator is exposed to a high vacuum pressure for the purpose of cooling, the bearing housing is exposed to an ambient pressure as a whole. By the isolation, one side of the bearing housing is exposed to the high vacuum pressure inside the enclosure, the opposite side is exposed to the ambient pressure, as a result, the possibility of the oil leakage to the inside of the generator occurring up until then is eliminated. Also, the necessity of a high suction pressure to a vapor extracting device (30) is eliminated, and oil vapor is removed from the bearing housing by a conventional vapor extracting device (39) combined with a lubricating oil system.
