PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light concentrator such that even when the active layers of semiconductor lasers are close to each other, pieces of luminous flux emitted from the active layers are hardly cross each other. SOLUTION: The light concentrator is equipped with light sources 10 and 20 and a light mixing element 30. The light sources 10 and 20 are equipped with semiconductor laser arrays 12 and 22, collimator lenses 16 and 26, and optical path converting elements 18 and 28, respectively. The light mixing element 30 mixes the pieces of luminous flux from the light sources 10 and 20. Divergence of the luminous flux in a plane perpendicular to the arrangement direction of active layers 14 and 24 is suppressed through the refraction of the collimator lenses 16 and 26. When the cross section of the luminous flux is rotated by nearly 90°by the optical path converting elements 18 and 28, the divergence of the luminous flux is suppressed in the arrangement direction of the active layers. The adjacent pieces of luminous flux therefore hardly cross each other. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
