<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biosensor for carrying out a measurement, using two electrodes being a work electrode and a counter electrode doubling as a reference electrode, while eliminating measurement errors caused by the potential of the counter electrode which is used as a reference when applying a potential on the work electrode and fluctuates, in accordance with oxidation-reduction reactions on the work electrode, and thereby enabling to quantify a substrate more accurately. <P>SOLUTION: The biosensor is provided with the work electrode, the counter electrode and a reagent bed, including at least an enzyme and an electron transferring body. The effective area of the counter electrode is 10<SP>2</SP>-10<SP>4</SP>times that of the work electrode. The counter electrode is made of a metal, preferably containing platinum, gold or palladium as the principal component by using an electrodeposition process. The work electrode is made of a complex containing a metal and a conductive material other than the metal as principal components, by removing the metal from the complex. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
