PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve productivity without causing image distortion with simple configuration and control method. SOLUTION: This document transporting device is provided with a feed driving means A for driving a roller for feeding an original d, and a read driving means B for driving a roller for reading and transporting the original d, sequentially transporting the original d by the driving of the feed driving means A and the read driving means B and reads the document. A one-way clutch 601 is arranged at the roller shaft of at least the most upstream roller for feeding the original d. The original transporting device is provided with a control means 500 which allows the one-way clutch 601 to rotate in the transporting direction of the most upstream roller even if the driving of the feed driving means A is stopped, drives the roller for reading and transporting the document by the read driving means B and reads and transports the original.
