PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat insulating material that has high thermal insulation and fireproof performance, and has no occurrence of a toxic component even in burning. SOLUTION: Powdered garnet and a binder are mixed and filled into a mould, baked, and foamed to provide a plate-shaped heat insulating material. This may be formed in a pipe shape or vessel shape.
