A food processor (1) comprises a processing container (3) containing a processing blade (20), a lid (4) and a drive unit (2). Both the lid (4) and the drive unit (2) are connectable to the processing container (3). The drive unit (2) is operable to drive the processing blade (20) only when the lid (4) is fitted and when the processin g container (3) is locked onto the drive unit (2).
