摘要
977,630. Laminates and laminating. H. L. LORENTZEN. May 26, 1961 [May 27, 1960], No. 19179/61. Heading B5N. A honeycomb or like cellular board structure in which the axis of each individual cell extends at an angle of substantially 90 degrees to the surfaces of the board, obtained by joining sheets or webs of fibrous material along linearly defined areas, the said sheets or webs being impregnated with and joined to one another by means of one and the same hardening plastic such as a polyester solution, is characterized in that, in order to ensure that joining is restricted to predetermined areas extending stripwise, strips of foil material, which may be coiled, are inserted between the layers of sheet or web material. The foil may be of paper, metal or plastic. At least one fibrous string may be inserted in each of the stripwise jointing areas, parallel to the length of the joint, to fill out the increased spacing between each pair of sheets or webs resulting from the insertion of the foil. As shown (Fig. 2) sheets 11 of glass fibre fabric are superimposed with the interlaying of spaced strips 12 of coiled aluminium foil alternating with a suitable number (here 2) of yarns 13 of glass fibres. The structure is then impregnated with a hardening plastic, which may be accompanied by heat and/or pressure, whereby the sheets 11 are united by the plastic along striplike areas 14 while the strips of foil 12 prevent continuous joining of the sheets. By applying stretching forces to the structure, as shown by arrows in Fig. 2, a honeycomb structure, as shown in Fig. 3, is attained. The foils 12 may be withdrawn from, or dissolved out of, the cells. Irrespective of removal or not of the foils 12, the expanded cells may be filled with a liquid plastic which, upon hardening, forms a foam. The structure of Fig. 3 may be provided with a covering layer parallel to the plane of the drawing to cover the honeycomb cells at either or both ends. The assembly of Fig. 2 may be produced as shown in Fig. 4 wherein sheets of glass fibre fabric 11, coiled foils 12 and glass fibre yams 13 are fed, over guide rolls 22, on to winding drum 21 and are sprayed with impregnant from nozzles 23. When the desired number of layers has been wound on, the assembly can be hardened on the drum. The glass fibre fabric 11 may be omitted and instead glass fibres, plastic and a catalyst may be sprayed from nozzles 23. After hardening, the body may be removed from drum 21 and sliced into axially parallel pieces.
