PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a remote controller which can control the operation of an electrical appliance stably even when the sensitivity of the electrical appliance, including on-vehicle devices, is decreased by the influence of ambient brightness. SOLUTION: A remote controller 10 outputting a control signal for controlling the electrical appliance, including an onboard device 20, to the onboard device 20 comprises: a light emitting section 11 for emitting an infrared ray representing the control signal; and an output control section 12 for controlling the output level of the infrared ray emitted by the light emitting section 11. The output control section 12 increases the output level of the control signal (an infrared ray signal) by the infrared ray by controlling the current value of an operating current flowing in the light emitting section 11, or by controlling the frequency of the infrared ray emitted by the light emitting section 11, or by controlling the light emission of a plurality of light emitting devices forming the light emitting section 11.
