PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain high-speed responsiveness and to enhance image quality such as contrast when display is performed by active matrix driving of a liquid crystal having spontaneous polarization. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device comprises a liquid crystal element driven by an active matrix system and a driving means in which the scanning select period of each scanning signal line is shorter than the response time of a liquid crystal and which applies information signal voltage corrected by adding a decrease of voltage due to reversal of the spontaneous polarization of the liquid crystal to an information signal line.
