PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit even a large quantity of smoke from flowing into the upper side. SOLUTION: This hoistway smoke sealing apparatus is divided into an inoperative region in a hoistway, a car and an operating region of a balancing weight. A fireproof door fitting frame is divided into an inoperative part and an operating part, and the car and the balancing weight can be moved up and down. When a smoke sensor is operated in case of a fire, a switch and a cam are abutted on each other to stop the car in the intermediate floor by a control circuit. The operation of the reversed balancing weight is stopped by abutting of a second switch on the cam to make an electromagnet operative. After the fireproof doors in the periphery of the car are adjusted, the electromagnet is operated to seal the gap between the inoperative region and the operating region by turning over the rising and falling type fireproof doors, and the periphery of the balancing weight is completely sealed. After that a solenoid valve is made controllable, the solenoid valve is operated to jet bubbles from a bubble emission nozzle, thereby sealing the gap of each floor entrance from the smoke.
