PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an imaging apparatus having a photodetector for holding the peak intensity of incident light for a predetermined time and binarizing/outputting the intensity of incident light at a value of constant ratio to the peak intensity of incident light in which an accurate and stabilized horizontal synchronizing signal can be attained even when the quantity of light is switched. SOLUTION: In the imaging apparatus having a photodetector for holding the peak intensity of incident light for a predetermined time and binarizing/outputting the intensity of incident light at a value of constant ratio to the the peak intensity of incident light, the peak intensity of incident light thus held is reset when the quantity of light is switched.
