<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driver monitor device capable of easily detecting the status of a driver by means of a simple arrangement. <P>SOLUTION: The driver monitor device is mounted in a vehicle to monitor the status of a driver based on an image of the driver's face. The device comprises an image pickup means 1 for picking up images of the driver's face; an image storage means 2 for storing in time series the face images picked up by the image pickup means 1 at predetermined sampling intervals; a differential computing means 3 for computing differences in density at each pixel among the face images stored in time series; and a movement detecting means 5 for calculating the number of pixels where density has varied based on the differential computing means 3 and for determining that the driver has moved his face when the number of pixels is equal to or greater than a predetermined reference value. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
