PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolyte for an electrolytic capacitor which contains dicarboxylic acid or its salt and has electrical properties as an electrolyte especially for medium to high voltages and has stability, high solubility, etc. at a high temperature, and also to provide an electrolytic capacitor using the same. SOLUTION: The electrolyte for an electrolytic capacitor which contains dicarboxylic acid expressed by Formula (1) and/or its salt, and the electrolytic capacitor using the same are provided. In Formula (1), R1and R2are alkyl groups including one to six carbons, with R1and R2being either identical or different, and R3is an alkylene group including two to four carbons, and (m) is an integer from 1 to 4.
