PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lock and retain a movable contact opened by receiving an electromagnetic repulsive force of an overcurrent in the opened position in a simple structure effectively utilizing an assembly of the movable contact, a contact pressure spring, and a contact holder. SOLUTION: This circuit breaker is so formed that the movable contact 4 is retained in the contact holder 5 with its assembled with a double torsion spring 7 and the movable contact 4 is opened using the electromagnetic repulsive force operating between a fixed contact and the movable contact when flowing the overcurrent as the driving force. This circuit breaker is formed with a latch part 4b projecting from the rear surface of the movable contact into a square shape, provided with a lock pin 11 impelled to a lock position by the torsional coil spring in the contact holder matching with the moving locus of the latch part, and the latch part is latched with the lock pin when opening the contact by the electromagnetic repulsive force, so that the movable contact is locked and retained in the opened position.
