PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately enable to diagnose the response delay of an air fuel ratio in an air fuel ratio feedback system for sequentially identifying a plant model. SOLUTION: The plant model from a fuel injection valve to an air fuel sensor is sequentially identified, and a control gain in the feedback control is set using a parameter of the identified plant model. In such a constitution, an identifying parameter is previously fixed to a value memorized in a map corresponding to an engine load / engine rotational speed when diagnosing the response degradation of the air fuel ratio sensor in a feedback control condition.
