PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a push type lock for a mailbox simple in both a mechanism and operation, and having high security. SOLUTION: This push type lock 10 is installed to a lid 31 of the mailbox 30, and a latch 1 usually projecting in the D direction from a box body 7 engages with a latch receiver 32. A bolt 8 or 9 having two kinds of shapes is installed in a prescribed position on the surface of the lock together with a button 19. In unlocking, the latch 1 becomes movable by pushing down only a bolt (for example, the bolt 8) of one kind, and the latch 1 moves in the opposite direction of the D direction when pushing down a push button 6, and is disconnected from the latch receiver 32. Then, since a projection 2 formed along the latch 1 and energized in the D direction by a spring projects in the D direction along the latch receiver 32, the lid naturally rotates in the R direction.
