PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a promoter for effect of a therapeutic agent for diabetes, which is used with a therapeutic agent for diabetes to increase therapeutic effect on diabetes, to effectively ameliorate symptoms of diabetes, to reduce dose of the therapeutic agent for diabetes and to avoid its adverse effect. SOLUTION: The promoter for effect of a therapeutic agent for diabetes is used with the therapeutic agent for diabetes to increase its therapeutic effect and comprises a composition composed of a low-molecular-weight chitosan and/or its salt as an active ingredient. The average molecular weight of the low-molecular-weight chitosan is preferably 10,000-30,000 and the promoter contains 0.01-10 mass % of the low-molecular-weight chitosan and/or its salt. The therapeutic agent for diabetes is preferably at least one kind selected from an insulin preparation, anα-glucosidase inhibitor, a thiazolidine derivative, a biguanide agent, a phenylalanine derivative and a sulfonylurea agent.
