HANDLE STRUCTURE

A handle structure (10) for a tool (11) such as a shovel. The handle structure (10) comprises a first handle portion (21) and a second handle portion (22). The second handle portion (22) is pivotally moveable with respect to the first handle portion (21) between an operative condition and a retracted condition. A locking means (60) is provided for selectively locking the second handle portion (22) in any one of the operative and retracted conditions. The locking means (60) comprises a locking pin (65) and locking notches (51, 52, 53), each locking notch corresponding to a respective one of the operative and retracted conditions. In one mode of operation, a user (80) can hold the handle structure (10) with one hand (81) on the second handle portion (22) when in an operative condition, and the other hand (83) on the first handle portion (21). In this way, the user (80) can assume a more upright stance, which may be more ergonomically efficient and also involve less stress on the back of the user (80).
