Disclosed is a sealing mat (10) which swells under the influence of a liquid and in which a material (3) that is made of a superabsorber is disposed between two fleece layers (1, 2), said material (3) fixing the fleece layers ( (1, 2) to each other. The highly swelling and light sealing mat can be used for sealing purposes in structural and civil engineering, particularly for building tunnels.
