Flexible substrate such as leather or textiles can be coated with the aid of aqueous polymer dispersions from unsaturated monomers, e.g. polyacryate or polybutadiene dispersions in combination with silicic acid sol as binder to give a laminate coating of clearly improved water permeability. <??>An Independent claim is included for preparation of the laminate coating by coating or impregnating one or more flexible substrates on one or both sides with one or more coating agents, which can be the same or different, where at least one coating agent is a silica modified aqueous polymer dispersion built up from unsaturated monomers.
