A toolholder has a longitudinally grooved bore and a tool drive block adjustably slidably mounted therein, the block having a recess on each of a plurality of faces for receiving and driving a tool and an edge portion which engages the groove in the bore to be driven thereby. A collet chuck has a drive block B slidably mounted on longitudinal grooves 6, 7, 8, 9 in a threaded bore 4, the tool 3, shown as a twist drill but which may be a milling cutter, having a tang end 3<SP>1</SP> adapted to engage for positive drive and end location purposes in a recess 10 in a face of the block B. A threaded member 5 screwed into the bore 4 supports and adjusts the block B. The drive block may have more than one recess on a plurality of its faces to accommodate different sizes of tool ends and may have a spring detent device to retain it in its adjusted position when a tool is removed with the chuck vertical (Figs. 4, 5 not shown). Blocks of triangular or other section may be employed. |
