A thermostat element comprises a chamber 14 containing temperature sensitive wax, a plunger 16 operating in a bore 15 of smaller cross-section than the chamber, an intermediate bore 19 and intermediate means 23 engaging the wax and the plunger and being distortable on expansion of the wax to transmit thrust to the plunger characterized in that the end face of the intermediate bore is convexly profiled. The intermediate means comprises a one-piece fitted member 23 with a washer 29 between it and the plunger. The surface of the member facing the chamber is convexly domed to resist the tendency for the wax to penetrate the rubber. The expansion of the wax distorts and elongates the member 23 which moves the plunger 16 against the influence of a spring.</p> |
