A hinged hoop earring when used with an ear piercing system, the hinged hoop earring comprising: a stud hoop (3); a stud post (1) having a free end (9) and a connected end (8); a hinge (4) attached to a first end (8) of the stud hoop (3), the stud post (1) pivotally mounted on the hinge (4) so that the connected end (8) of the stud post (1) is connected to the hinge (4); and a latch (2) attached to a second end of the stud hoop (3), wherein the latch (2) is adapted to receive a part of the stud post (1) that is proximate to the free end (9) of the stud post (1).
