METHOD FOR LIMITING NUMBER OF CONNECTION USERS IN LAYER 2 SWITCH

PURPOSE: A method for limiting the number of connection users in a layer 2 switch is provided to limit the access of a host which exceeds the number of maximum connection users by canceling a packet received from the host when the number of hosts which are currently accessed is greater than the number of the maximum connection users. CONSTITUTION: If a packet is received from a host which is newly accessed(S16), the layer 2 switch increases the number of connection users of a port which receives the packet by 1(S18). The layer 2 switch judges whether the state of the port is normal(S20). If the state of the port is normal, the layer 2 switch judges whether the number of the connection users is greater than the number of maximum connection users(S22). If the number of the connection users is greater than the number of the maximum connection users, the layer 2 switch invalidates the connection of hosts which are accessed in the port(S24). When the hosts reattempt connection, the layer 2 switch admits connection to hosts having the number of the maximum connection users or less and limits the connection to hosts with the number of the maximum connection users or more(S24).
