PURPOSE: An HD optical disc and a playing method thereof are provided to additionally record information to a predetermined address field of a certain byte in an address unit, for carrying out normal data recording or playing proper for the disc. CONSTITUTION: An HD optical disc includes Sth address field of a fourth row byte recorded with additional information such as disc reflectivity, zone type, data type and disc type, respectively of 2 bits. When recording and playing data to or from the disc, the optical power control and the automatic gain control operation are carried out properly. The additional information is read out and checked when recording or playing data with respect to the disc.
