PURPOSE: A diversity receiver for detecting a differential amplitude using an MRC(Maximal Ratio Combining) scheme and a receiving method therefor are provided to detect the differential amplitude by calculating distances between an amplitude ratio of a receiving signal and amplitude candidate values and multiplying the calculated distances by the amplitude of the receiving signal. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of decision variable calculating units(30) multiply each distance between an amplitude ratio of a signal received through an antenna and a plurality of amplitude candidate values by the amplitude of the received signal, and obtain amplitude decision variables. An amplitude deciding unit(40) synthesizes the obtained amplitude decision variables, and decides a certain amplitude candidate value as the amplitude of the received signal among the synthesized amplitude decision variables.
