A method of removing metal(s) (M1) in ionic form from aqueous effluents (I) involves contacting (I) with metal(s) (M2) which are partially or completely covered with hydrogen before and/or during contact with the M1 ions, then recovering the treated effluent. An Independent claim is included for a decontamination kit including at least one of the metals (M2), for use in the above procedure.
