PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk device in which defect management of a defect detected on an optical disk is conducted while suppressing reduction in a processing speed. SOLUTION: In the device, recording data recorded on the optical disk are reproduced while errors are being corrected and the number of errors detected from the recording data of each block being reproduced is counted. Then, verification is made whether the number of detected errors is reliable or not based on the change amount of the error numbers computed from the number of detected errors within a defect detection unit and the number of errors detected in a previously recorded data. When the number of errors is equal to or more than a prescribed number, the number of errors is not reliable, the recording data are re-recorded in a defect determination unit, the number of errors is verified and thereby, determination is made whether the block is a defect block or not using a reliable number of errors.
