PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical transmission apparatus having high efficiency of utilizing light by ameliorating the optical coupling loss of light guides and optical elements. SOLUTION: The optical transmission apparatus is provided with the light guides 11 having light incident and exit sections in stepped parts of a plurality of staircase shapes, a substrate 12 for fixing the light guides, and light receiving elements 14 and light emitting elements 15 arranged on the substrate in correspondence to the light incident and exit sections of the light guides. The light receiving elements 14 and the light emitting elements 15 are arranged on the substrate by using optical connectors 13. Here. the coefficients of linear expansion and the dimensional change rate (or percentage of water absorption) by water absorption of the light guides 11 and the substrate 12 are made nearly equal to each other.
