PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for purifying a carbon nanotube through which a highly pure carbon nanotube is easily obtained. SOLUTION: A mixed solution of sulfuric acid and potassium nitrate is added to a crude product containing the carbon nanotube, and the solution is heated to remove impurities other than the carbon nanotube. Then, the carbon nanotube is recovered through filtering, washed with water, and dried. Preferably, a multilayer carbon nanotube is heated at 50-250°C; and a single-layer carbon nanotube, at 50-200°C. Preferably, sulfuric acid and potassium nitrate are mixed at a molar ratio of sulfuric acid: potassium nitrate of from 80:20 to 95:5. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
