MUSCLE PROTEIN DEGRADATION INHIBITOR AND FUNCTIONAL FOOD AND DRINK

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a muscle protein degradation inhibitor directly efficiently acting on the inhibition of the degradation of the muscle protein of human beings or other animals, and hardly providing side effects; and to provide a method for inspecting muscle damage by using the inhibitor.

SOLUTION: The muscle protein degradation inhibitor contains lycopene in an amount of ≥60 mg/day as an active ingredient. The method for using the muscle protein degradation inhibitor involves adding the inhibitor to a food for breed fish or food for a race horse. The method for preventing the muscle damage involves letting an animal intake the muscle protein degradation inhibitor when it is judged that the muscle damage is positive from a detected value of a lycopene concentration in blood lower than a normal value of 100-200 ng/ml concentration of the lycopene in the blood. The degradation of the muscle protein can be prevented by the ingestion of a prescribed amount of the lycopene in high safety.
