PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a countdown device which makes human beings conscious of the flow of time over such a long time that they cannot continuously grasp. SOLUTION: The hourglass-shaped countdown device is provided with: a counting device 100; a display 200 configured to visually move a hourglass-like object, i.e., virtual time medium visually indicating the time quantity from a virtual space for indicating remaining time to a virtual space for indicating elapsed time so that the remaining time or elapsed time of target time can be visually grasped; and a countdown setting device 300. The countdown setting device can set the target time in the unit of the number of days, weeks, months or years depending on a countdown item, thereby making observers conscious of the flow of time.
