PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic transmission capable of obtaining a gear ratio of good and desired forward six-speed stage and reverse one-speed stage. SOLUTION: An input shaft, a double planetary gear for gear change, and a double pinion planetary reduction gear capable of fixing a fix element and connecting an input element to the input shaft are coaxially arranged. A first element of the double planetary gear for gear change can be fixed via a first brake, or connected to the output element of the double pinion planetary reduction gear. A second element is connected to the input shaft via a second clutch or fixed via a second brake. A fourth element is connected to the input shaft via the first clutch, and a third element is always connected to the output member. The forward six-speed and the reverse one-speed are accomplished by engaging and disengaging each clutch and each brake with a controller. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
