PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fiber spontaneously transferring water onto the surface thereof. SOLUTION: The fiber spontaneously transfers water onto the surface thereof and satisfies formulas (1-Xcosθa)<0 and X= PW/[4r+(π-2)D], whereinθais the advancing contact angle of water measured on a flat film having a surface made of the same material as the surface of the fiber, X is a shape factor of the fiber cross-section, PWis the wetted perimeter of the fiber and r is the radius of the circle circumscribing the fiber cross section and D is the minor axis dimension across the fiber cross section.
